Please answer one, or more than one of the questions below:

1)What would it mean to say “time is a gift”? How different is “time as a gift” from “time as money”? How might such a view change our lives? Can you think of any negative aspects to this view of time?

2a)Talk to a student with a cultural background different from your own. Ask that person what they have noticed about Americans’ view approach to time. How is it different (or similar) to the approach with which they are familiar?

OR

2b) If you are from another cultural background than most of the students around you, briefly describe any differences or similarities you notice between your own notion and approach to time and those that are dominant here.

  1. In today's fast paced society, to many, it seems that there is just not enough time in the day to feel accomplished. I for one, feel that way every single day. I think that we as Americans try to fill our days with way too much to do. I'm guilty too of trying to force an outrageous amount of tasks into my day. I am busy from early morning until late in the evening 7 days a week and everyone tells me that I do way too much. But, the time we have on this planet is a gift and I feel that I will miss out on something if I don't do as much as I possibly can. I guess you can say I'm a "Yes Man" for those of you who have seen the new Jim Carrey movie, but not as insane as he is of course.
Greed plays a major role in our society; people always want their lives to be bigger and better than the next person's (i'm making a pretty strong assumption here). If it means staying an extra couple of hours at work to make some extra duckies after already working over an 8 hour day, I feel that many people would stay and work to get that money regardless if they were tired or not.

  2. I feel our time on this planet is special and as Americans we choose Values over value all the time,we as Americans are always on the go and from what I see are always trying to keep up with the Jones. Always changing with the times and never take the time to take a step back and see what's really going on? In my line of work, we sell time in :10 sec, :15 sec,:30 sec,:60sec commercials. So to Radio and TV time is money. Big money. To some, the time we have on this planet has no meaning to them. What they don't realize is the day they were born they began to die, and as much as we want time on our side, but that's not the case as we get older time starts to take away from life in place of giving. Time is usually never on our side, so be aggressive with your time, because you don't know when your time here will run out.
